PSA OC Labels Explained: What Off-Center Qualifiers Mean
An OC qualifier on a PSA label signals serious centering issues. Learn what it means, how it affects value, and how to spot OC risk before you submit.
Few label marks confuse new buyers like OC. It stands for off-center, and it changes how you should price and evaluate a graded card.
What OC means
PSA may assign a grade with an OC qualifier when centering falls outside what they allow for a "clean" label at that grade. You still get a numeric grade, but the qualifier tells the market the centering was a notable problem.
Value impact
OC copies usually sell for less than clean labels at the same number. How much less depends on the card and how bad the centering looks through the slab. A mild OC on a cheap modern common is a footnote; an OC on a vintage holo is a negotiation point.
OC vs a lower clean grade
Sometimes a card is so off-center that it simply receives a lower grade without a qualifier discussion in your own evaluation. The market cares about the final label you can show in a listing. Compare comps for both clean and OC versions when they exist.
How to avoid surprise OCs
Measure left/right and top/bottom borders on front and back before you submit. Vintage sheets are infamous for wild backs. If the back is heavily off, assume gem-mint is unlikely.
Measure instead of guessing
Cardemon reports centering as part of its sub-grades from front and back photos. If centering is the weak link, you will see it before PSA does — and before you pay for a label that comes back OC.
A quick pre-submission checklist
Before you spend on grading, confirm four things: the exact card and variant, recent comps for the grade you hope to hit, front-and-back condition under good light, and whether the fee still leaves upside. If any answer is fuzzy, slow down. Cardemon is built to sharpen the condition answer in minutes so the money questions get clearer.
