Signed Pokémon Cards: Autographs, Authentication, and Value Reality

A signature from an illustrator or personality can make a card meaningful. Translating that meaning into market value is harder than many sellers hope.

What buyers care about

• Whose signature is it?
• Is it authenticated by a trusted third party?
• Did the autograph damage the card's eye appeal or grade path?
• Is there proven demand for that signer on that card?

Without answers, "signed Charizard" is often a tougher sell than a clean unsigned copy.

Grading and autos

Autographs complicate standard grading paths. Some collectors prefer separate autograph authentication rather than assuming a grading company label solves everything. Research before you ink a valuable card.

Personal value vs market value

A card signed for you at a convention may be priceless to you and moderately interesting to others. Price accordingly.
