TCGPlayer vs eBay: Where to Check Pokémon Card Prices

TCGPlayer and eBay can disagree on value. Learn how to read both markets and build a realistic price for buying or selling.

The Cardemon Team2 min read

Ask two marketplaces what a card is worth and you may get two answers. That is normal — they measure slightly different things.

TCGPlayer-style markets

These often reflect active seller listings and sales in a card-focused marketplace. They are excellent for raw singles, especially modern. Pay attention to condition filters: Near Mint comps do not price Heavily Played cards.

eBay realities

eBay includes auctions, Best Offers, graded slabs, and a wider buyer pool. Sold listings matter more than asking prices. Watch shipping costs and fee drag when comparing "what it sold for" to cash in hand.

Graded vs raw

Do not price a PSA 10 with raw NM comps. Match format: raw to raw, PSA 9 to PSA 9, same edition, same language when possible.

A simple pricing method

  1. Pull recent sold comps from more than one source when the card is expensive.
  2. Discard outliers (fire sales, mis-titled listings).
  3. Adjust for condition and fees.

Condition vocabulary

Marketplace condition vocabularies do not perfectly match. Translate carefully — one seller's LP is another's NM wishful thinking. Photos beat adjectives.

Graded crosswalks

When eBay is full of slabs and the other market is raw-heavy, convert using grade premiums rather than forcing a direct apples-to-apples number.

When you need a quick range while sorting a collection, Cardemon's value estimate gives a low-to-high band you can then verify with live comps for serious transactions.

Practical money habits that protect you

Write a max buy price before you shop, verify sold comps for the exact variant and condition, and treat fees as part of the price. Hype is loud; net proceeds are quiet. When condition decides the spread — and it often does — scan the card in Cardemon before you stretch for a "deal" that is only a deal if it gems.
