Start with the cert

Look up the certification number on the grading company's official site. Confirm:

• Card name and number match.
• Grade matches the label.
• Any available images resemble the card in the slab.

If the cert does not exist or belongs to a different card, stop.

Inspect the slab hardware

Compare case plastic, label font, hologram stickers, and seal style to known authentic slabs of the same era. Fake cases often feel wrong in weight, clarity, or label sharpness. Study genuine examples from trusted sellers before you buy expensive slabs from strangers.

Inspect the card inside

Even a real case can theoretically be tampered with (uncommon, but treat ultra-high-value purchases carefully). Does the card look like the right printing? Do colors, texture, and back pattern match authentic copies?

Buy from safer channels

For expensive cards, prefer established sellers, major auctions with strong authenticity processes, or in-person deals with verification. "Too good to be true" pricing on a gem vintage holo usually is.
